Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh attended the closing ceremony of the quartoceptcentennial jubilee celebrations of Cherra Presbyterian Secondary School and Sohra Presbytery on December 8.

He said dedicated efforts for improving the quality of education in the state is the need of the hour, adding that students, parents and teachers should take collective responsibility to increase educational quality.

Urging the school management to emphasise character formation of the students, Lyngdoh urged creating students’ pride of our own cultural heritage and civilization.

“The list of alumni of this institution is truly enviable. I was impressed to know that former Dy speaker of Lok Sabha late GG Swell Cajee, two former CMs, late BB Lyngdoh and Donkupar Roy Dkhar, the first Member of Legislative Assembly from Sohra, SP Swer, and many others are alumni of the school,” Lyngdoh said.

Lyngdoh also lauded the founders and missionaries for establishing the institute and for being able to serve the people with a purpose. He further credited the pastors, the managing committee and presbytery for alleviating the school. He agreed that the school needs to be upgraded to a higher secondary school.

The assembly speaker thanked the teachers community for their role and responsibility in shaping the mind and life of students, adding that the school should continue to produce more outstanding leaders and distinguished officers in order to contribute towards the society.

Meanwhile, Titosstarwell Chyne, CEM of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) also stressed the upgradation of the school.

He assured of funding the school from his MDC scheme of Rs 20 lakh for the school infrastructure in order to upgrade it to a higher secondary school.
