Banteidor visits landslide-affected areas

It may be mentioned that a landslide happened in Mawlat village under Mawkynrew C&RD Block, and two people died while passing through the area.

SHILLONG:

Cabinet Minister and Mawkynrew legislator, Banteidor Lyngdoh visited the areas under his constituency which were affected by the landslide on Tuesday.

It may be mentioned that a landslide happened in Mawlat village under Mawkynrew C&RD Block, and two people died while passing through the area.

The deceased persons were identified as Rohit Kshiar (14) of Mawlat village and Dilibon Tangsang (35) of Mawkria village.

Under the same block, a landslide occurred at Umblai village and two houses and two shops were reported damaged.

The houses belonged to Kro Kshiar, which was fully damaged, and Phrangki Khongjoh, which was partially damaged. The shops of Sngur Khongjoh and Kshonti Mary Khongjoh were also affected by the landslides.

During his visit, Lyngdoh extended financial assistance to those families affected by the landslide.

The local MLA also assured that he will take up with the government that compensation of Rs 4 lakh each should be extended to the families of Kshiar and Tangsang who died in the landslide.

Lyngdoh also said that he had a discussion with authorities of the PWD to be alert in case there is a landslide.

The Mawkynrew MLA also said that the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) road at Lynshing is completed and the road will be extended further and retaining walls will be constructed all along the way to prevent landslides.
