SHILLONG:
South Shillong legislator Sanbor Shullai has said that NGOs have the right to give suggestions on good things, and such suggestions are always welcomed, even as he maintained that religious festivals in Shillong are conducted peacefully without any objections from any corners.
Shullai was reacting to Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) objections against erection of pandals on PWD (Roads) during the pujas in Laban area to which he said, “For the last 50 years after achieving statehood, celebration of Pujas, Christmas, Eid, Muharram, Chath Puja, Bihu or Diwali has gone very smoothly. Any community organising any festivals in the city have to obtain permission from the DC, and they have to follow instructions of the district administration and the police department.
