PT Sawkmie

SHILLONG:

Congress legislator from Mawlai Process T Sawkmie on Friday said there is not much in the Union Budget 2022-23 to cheer for the Northeastern states.

Sawkmie said only Rs 1,500 crore was allocated for the North East despite the central government’s constant assurance on doing more for the development of the region.

He wondered how the Northeastern states would be able to develop with such a small budget.

The MLA said he thought that the Centre would focus more on helping the people with employment and financial relief as many have lost their jobs due to the pandemic.

“Therefore, the budget this year has failed to address the problems of the people,” he added.
