Army aspirants take to streets against Agnipath in Shillong

Speaking to The Meghalayan, Gaurav Kumar from Upper Shillong fears that the Agnipath scheme may pose a big threat to internal security in the "insurgency-hit" Northeast.

Shillong:

Scores of army job aspirants staged a demonstration on June 24, demanding immediate rollback of the recently launched Agnipath military recruitment scheme in front of the PWD office, Shillong.

The youth also held a protest march demanding Common Entrance Examination (CEE) and Army Recruitment Rally to be conducted at the earliest.

Army aspirants take to the streets demanding to complete the pending recruitment process in the city

Speaking to The Meghalayan, Gaurav Kumar from Upper Shillong fears that the Agnipath scheme may pose a big threat to internal security in the “insurgency-hit” Northeast.

“It has been observed that there is a tendency among unemployed youths to join militant groups in the Northeast. The problem may surface among the so-called ‘Agniveers’ as they would remain unemployed after completing four years and may become an easy target for proscribed outfits,” he said.

Another protestor said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will have to withdraw the military recruitment initiative just like the farm laws were rolled back, adding ”BJP has broken dream of lakhs of youths.”
