State govt decides to repeal ‘outdated’ Civil Task Force Act, 1974

CM Sangma emphasised that the act, created in 1974, has become obsolete due to changes in systems and the completion of necessary formalities for the task force employees, who have either retired or received a golden handshake.

SHILLONG:

“The Meghalaya Civil Task Force Act, 1974, will be repealed,” announced Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma after chairing the cabinet meeting on Friday. He emphasised that the act, created in 1974, has become obsolete due to changes in systems and the completion of necessary formalities for the task force employees, who have either retired or received a golden handshake.

Sangma explained, “Therefore, the Act itself is actually redundant, and hence to ensure that there are no further complications, the state cabinet today has decided that it will be repealed.” He informed that the three existing posts would be absorbed into different branches of the department, and the repeal act would be presented in the next Assembly session.

Simultaneously, the Cabinet approved names recommended for the Meghalaya Day Award, to be announced during the Meghalaya Day celebration. Additionally, the Cabinet sanctioned a list of VIPs to take the salute during the upcoming Republic Day celebrations across the state.
