State keeping tab on Covid cases

SHILLONG:

The state government is keeping a tight vigil on the rising number of Covid-19 cases in some countries while ensuring that economic activities go on.

“As a government we are vigilant about the rising number of Covid-19 cases in other countries but India as a whole is looking at numbers declining at a very fast rate. So the kind of spike in Covid-19 cases in other counties has not really had an impact in India,” Health and Family Welfare Minister James K Sangma said.

He also said that the number of cases in the country in general and the state in particular is declining since most of the population has developed immunity to the virus either after being infected or having been vaccinated.

“We are observing and we are vigilant, but at the same time I think that as a state we have to resume economic activities and life has to go back to normal otherwise livelihoods will start getting affected,” Sangma added.

Meanwhile, on Sunday the state recorded one new Covid-19 case and six recovered from the illness.

With this the number of active cases in the state has come down to 44.
