Suspended Congress MLAs committed to MDA

PT Sawkmie says the group will remain in the Congress

SHILLONG:

Congress leader and Mawlai MLA Process T Sawkmie, on February 14, said he and the four other party MLAs would remain committed to the MDA government in the interest of the state, but remained silent on their next course of action after being suspended on Saturday.

Sawkmie along with Ampareen Lyngdoh, Mayralborn Syiem, Mohendro Rapsang and Kimfa Marbaniang , who comprise the Congress Legislature Party, had on February 8 joined the alliance government which also has BJP as a constituent.

The five MLAs had met earlier in the day.

However, he said that the MLAs will stay in the Congress. “We will remain with the Congress, we cannot associate with or join any other party,” he said.

Sawkmie also questioned the inaction of the AICC towards the 12 Congress MLAs who had merged with the Trinamool Congress in November.

“I do not understand the stand of the AICC. Why did not they say anything then? They had kept quiet,” he said.

None of the MLAs divulged what transpired in the meeting.

Sawkmie explained they had decided to keep quiet as they have so far not received any communication from the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) regarding their suspension.

MPCC president Vincent Pala had on Saturday said the AICC had approved suspension of the five MLAs and that they would receive the letter today.
