The CPA has unanimously elected Thomas A Sangma as the vice-chairman of the CPA India Region Zone III. He will hold the post for six months.
The announcement was made following the executive committee meeting of Zone III in a city hotel.
Speaking at the conference, Sangma said, “The aims of the CPA India Region Zone III is to promote knowledge of the constitutional, legislative, economic, social and cultural aspects of parliamentary democracy with special reference to the eight North Eastern states which are sub-branches of the main CPA India Region Branch, Lok Sabha.”
CPA EVENTS AFTER CHURCH SERVICES
Respecting the religious sentiments of people, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that the CPA will continue on Sunday only after the church services are over.
Responding to a query on the concerns being expressed that the CPA is being held on a Sunday, the chief minister told reporters that since parliament is in session, the only time the Lok Sabha Speaker could come was during the weekend.
“Hence, we had limited options. Obviously, we are concerned about these issues and that is why though the programmes were more in detail, we have asked the CPA to ensure that the programmes should start only after the church services are over,” he said. Therefore, he said respecting the religious sentiments of everybody, even the programme mentiones that one could attend the service and once it is over only after that, towards the afternoon, it will continue.
The two-day CPA was inaugurated by the Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Saturday.
