TMC puts up Rinaldo for chairman post, election today

Tura:

Friday’s election to the position of GHADC Chairman is going to be a straight contest between the opposition Trinamool Congress and the ruling NPP alliance.

The Trinamool has fielded Rongrong ( Resubelpara) MDC Rinaldo K Sangma against the NPP candidate Sengchim M Sangma, MDC from Gasuapara constituency of South Garo Hills.

Rinaldo had won last year’s  GHADC elections on a Congress ticket along with 11 other MDCs.

However, he together with 10 other Congress MDCs defected to the Trinamool Congress after former chief minister Mukul Sangma left the Grand Old Party to join Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool, taking 11 other MLAs as well.

The election will be held at 11 AM in the council session hall.

There are 30 MDCs, including one nominated member, who are eligible to vote in the chairman’s election.

Trinamool candidate Rinaldo K Sangma defeated NPP heavyweight and three-term sitting MDC Sukharam K Sangma, whereas, Sengchim M Sangma defeated heavyweight Devier M Sangma,  younger brother of Baghmara MLA Samuel Sangma.
