Torch relay for 5th Meghalaya Games reaches West Jaintia Hills from Shillong

Shylla emphasised the significance of fitness and sports, urging athletes to give their best representation for the district.

JOWAI:

The torch relay teams from Shillong for the 5th Meghalaya Games received a warm welcome at Ummulong Beat House in the West Jaintia Hills District on January 11. District Sports Officer, K Passah, extended greetings to the Torch and the participating teams. The torchbearer responsibilities were then handed over to Marlangki Suting, a footballer, who carried it to Ummulong CHC.

Subsequently, the torch proceeded to Jowai, passing through the Jowai bypass and various locations within the town, including Mihmyntdu Lad College, Moorlong, Ladthadlaboh main road, Marian Hills Higher Secondary School, and concluding at Ummulong Taxi Stand, Iawmusiang, Jowai. The torchbearers, including Deilang wa o Nongpluh (Badminton), Honda-ohi Pappang (Taekwondo), Ferdinand Suchiang (Wushu), Wankishwa Mawlong (Judo), Happiness Phawa (Athletics), and Marso Kyndiat (Athletics), actively participated in carrying the torch.

A special programme took place at Ummulong taxi stand, Iawmusiang, where the local MLA, Wailadmiki Shylla, served as the Chief Guest. Deputy Commissioners B. S Sohliya, IAS, Superintendent of Police C. Syrti, MPS, along with District Sports Officers from Nongstoin, East Jaintia Hills, and West Jaintia Hills were also in attendance.

During the event, Shylla emphasised the significance of fitness and sports, urging athletes to give their best representation for the district. Stressing the importance of daily practice and discipline, he advised them to stay focused and deliver their best, refraining from dwelling on drawbacks or complaints.
