The infighting in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tripura has once again emerged, with party MLA Arun Chandra Bhowmik publicly seeking the removal of education minister Ratan Lal Nath on July 22.
The statement from Bhowmik, who is from Belonia Assembly Constituency in South district, came after Nath transferred two assistant professors from Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar College that falls under the former’s constituency.
The BJP MLA lashed out at the education minister saying that despite knowing the facts about the crisis of faculty members in the college, the department had transferred two assistant professors.
“The education department has transferred Arup Patari and Prabir Roy. The minister knows very well how the college is suffering for insufficient teachers and now two subject teachers for Physics and Education have been transferred. And, when I tried to convince him, he misbehaved with me over the phone,” Bhowmik said.
He also felt that the performance of the education minister is not up to the mark and that he should be immediately replaced by educated people like Speaker Ratan Chakraborty or Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury.
Expressing his resentment, Bhowmik said, “The way he behaved, it seemed like I was a subordinate officer in his office. There are several other people who are far more qualified than him and the Chief Minister should consider his removal from the post.”
Bhowmik also said that if no action is taken against Nath, he will be forced to take the matter to Delhi, and if it does not work out, he will move the High Court and seek the intervention of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against the minister for disproportionate property.
