Tripura: SFI, TSU stage road blockade demanding recruitment of teachers

The SFI state president said that schools across the state are facing a severe crisis of teachers but the government is not doing anything about it.

AGARTALA:

The Student Federation of India (SFI) and Tribal Student Union (TSU), which are two student bodies of opposition Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), on August 3 held a massive protest by setting up a road blockade in Agartala demanding the recruitment of teachers in all schools across the state.

“Today the SFI and TSU, as pre-planned, have blockaded the road in Nagerjala Motor Stand in Agartala. Students are protesting and blocking roads across the state to demand the government recruit teachers as soon as possible,” SFI state president Sandipan Deb told reporters.

Deb said that schools across the state are facing a severe crisis of teachers and despite knowing about it, the government is not taking any initiative to recruit teachers for the schools.

Angered by the apathy, he said, “While students are out on the streets protesting, MLAs and ministers are enjoying their benefits and sitting inside AC rooms. Our protest will continue in the coming days.”

After members of SFI and TSU put up a blockade at Nagerjala Motor Stand, which is one of the largest motor stands in Triura, a huge contingent of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and police personnel was sent to disperse them.

In the meantime, a scuffle between the members of SFI and TSU broke out, and the police was able to detain all of them and clear the road.
