Bus services from Aizawl to Mizo inhabited areas in Tripura, Manipur and Myanmar had been proposed by Mizoram Transport minister.

AIZAWL:

The Mizoram State Transport (MST) is set to start a bus service between Aizawl and Behliangchhip town in Tripura. Dubbed as the “Unity Bus”, the service will commence from May 9, a statement issued by department’s director said, on May 6.

According to the statement, every Monday and Thursday, the bus will ply from Aizawl to Mizo dominated Behliangchhip and passengers from Behliangchhip to Aizawl will be able to commute on Tuesday and Friday, leaving for both destinations at 6:00 am.

Bus services from Aizawl to Mizo inhabited areas in Tripura, Manipur and Myanmar had been proposed by Mizoram Transport minister TJ Lalnuntluanga with an aim to strengthen the unity among the Mizo people.

Lalnuntluanga said that an agreement was reached with the Tripura government in December last year to launch the bus service between the two Northeastern states.

Apart from that, he also said that bus services will also be started from Aizawl to Manipur’s Churachandpur and Tahan in Myanmar, and that agreement has been sent to the Manipur government and its approval is awaited. He also added that the process to start the services could not be expedited due to the pandemic.

Regarding the bus service to Myanmar, the state government is yet to receive an approval from the Ministry of External Affairs, Lalnuntluanga said.

At the moment, Mizoram operates a bus service to only Guwahati in Assam via Shillong in Meghalaya.
