USTM audi best in east India: Satya Pal Malik

GUWAHATI:

A team of University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM), led by chancellor Mahbubul Hoque, paid a visit to Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik at Raj Bhawan in Shillong on Wednesday.

Comprising of vice-chancellor Prof GD Sharma, advisor Dr RK Sharma and Pro-VC Dr Balendra K Das, the team briefed the Governor about the progress at the University and discussed future projects.

Malik greeted the team with a memento and appreciated the work and progress of USTM, adding that “Achieving ‘A’ Grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in its 1st cycle of assessment is something rare in the country. With a very humble beginning, USTM has progressed to the satisfaction of all its stakeholders.”

Addressing the USTM chancellor, Malik said that choosing the land for the University campus in the foothills of Ri Bhoi district and developing the backward area is an action that could be termed as Jungle Mein Mangal kar diya”.

To help USTM achieve a global standard by 2030 as per the milestone set by it, the Governor also emphasized research and publications. “It must be a world-class institution and has to attract students from ASEAN countries”, he added.

Further appreciating the Central Auditorium of USTM as “the best in eastern India”, he also assured to extend all kinds of support from time to time.

Meanwhile, Hoque elaborated on the outreach activities of the university which was termed “very satisfactory” by Malik.

USTM’s neighbourhood outreach activities are operating within a nearly 30 km radius of the campus and the children of the area are getting a free education at USTM, while nearly 20 per cent of the total students at USTM are availing of free education. The meeting concluded with the Governor’s wish for USTM to become a centre of excellence.
