Nongpoh:
Local Legislator of Nongpoh AC Mayral Born Syiem inaugurated a combined water supply scheme sanctioned under the Jal Jeevan Mission in Nongpoh, Ribhoi district on March 24.
Apart from Syiem who consented as the chief guest, MDC Balajied Rani, PHE Nongpoh Division SE, Eugene Lamare, SE PHE Shillong DD Umdor along with other officers and local representative of Nongtyrlaw village were present at the inaugural function.
Speaking on the occasion, Syiem expressed his appreciation toward the officers of the Public Health Engineer (PHE) Department for their endless and untiring efforts to reach all rural villages in the district in successfully implementing the Jal Jeevan Mission for all the villagers by getting portable water supplies in their own door.
“Ri Bhoi District has been one of the districts having numerous villages facing a shortage of water supply due to the unavailable of water source or catchment area, but this hardship has seen the light of the day for the villagers for getting better and portable water supply through different governmental programme taking the task in providing water supply schemes to different villages in the district”, Syiem said
Syiem also said that to prevent more water crises and scarcity, it is of the utmost importance that citizens must take the responsibility to preserve our nature and its surroundings especially by protecting our forest and catchment areas so that future generations will not have to face any hardships in regard to the water supply.
