157 ‘tainted’ teachers barred from govt services

The Education department has barred 157 candidates from seeking employment in government services after being found involved in the 2009 education scam.

In a recent order issued by the BDR Tiwari, Commissioner and Secretary, Education department, a fine of Rs 50,000 was also slapped on each of the “tainted” candidates which they have to deposit in the State Disaster Management Fund within a period of 30 days.

“In continuation to this department order dated February 22, 2022 and as laid down in page 103, para (2) of the operative part of the order dated November 2, 2017 of the Meghalaya High Court, the 157 candidates who made representation are declared as tainted by the Three Members Committee vide letter dated May 14, 2022 are liable for penalty and are permanently debarred from seeking any government employment,” the order said.

Meanwhile, six candidates from the five sub-divisions, who made representations, were declared “untainted” by the three-member committee constituted by the Education department as per an order of the Meghalaya High Court.

Accordingly, the Director of School Education and Literacy has been requested to reinstate and post the said teachers as deemed fit and proper.

Earlier, the committee had examined 165 representations from the “tainted” candidates from the five sub divisions and declared the six candidates to be clean and two candidates, though over-aged, were found not “tampered or overwritten”.

The education department had examined the case and decided for non-imposition of fine as per para 2 of page 103 of the operative part of the order dated November 2, 2017 of the Meghalaya High Court in respect of these two candidates – Nital Suna (in service candidate) and Daburom Dkhar (Roll No 502) of Jowai sub division, the order stated.
