SHILLONG:
In view of the election dates being announced in the state, the model code of conduct and other instructions of the Election Commission of India (ECI) have become operative in Meghalaya.
In an order issued on January 19, District Magistrate, West Khasi Hills District said that individuals or organisations cannot hold any kind of agitations in any form in the district as such programmes will likely create law and order problems. The order comes into immediate effect.

The District Magistrate has ordered that under section 144 CrPC, 1973 it is prohibited for people or groups to carry money above Rs 50,000 in West Khasi Hills district and the same is to be effectively carried out in the district.
Property Damage
Displaying of cut out, wall writings, pasting of poster papers of any form, hoardings and banners on any public property is strictly prohibited.
Violation of the model code of conduct will result in imposition of penalties.
