2023 Assembly election: Section 144 CrPC promulgated in WJH

This order will extend throughout West Jaintia Hills, and it will come into force with immediate effect and will remain in force till the election process is over.

JOWAI:

The District Magistrate in West Jaintia Hills has promulgated Section 144 of CrPC to ensure peaceful conduct of general election through ensuring compliance of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), and prohibition of defacement of public and private properties by all contesting candidates or the political parties within West Jaintia Hills District.

As per the order, no wall writing, pasting of posters/ papers or defacement in any other form, or erecting/ displaying of cutouts, hoardings, banners, etc., shall be permitted on any public properties/ public premises. No political parties or candidates will be allowed to put up banners on roads/thoroughfares.

No wall writing, pasting of posters/papers or defacement in any other form, or erecting/displaying of cutouts, hoardings, banners, etc., shall be permitted on any private property, private wall without WRITTEN PERMISSION from the house owners and final approval from the office of the DC.

No election meeting will be allowed without taking permission from the office of the DM and subsequently local headmen regarding the venue of the meeting. No PA system will be allowed to be used between 10:00 pm to 6:00 am.

In case of PA system/loud speakers which are used without permission from the undersigned the same would be seized immediately by the local authorities. No rallies and procession will be allowed without the permission.

This order will extend throughout West Jaintia Hills, and it will come into force with immediate effect and will remain in force till the election process is over.
