26 NDRF teams operating in 14 flood-hit districts of Assam

Meanwhile, Congress MP in the Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi, on June 23, has vehemently slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Assam government accusing it of being busy toppling the Maharashtra government rather than focusing on flood relief and rescue operations

NEW DELHI:

As many as 26 teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are operating in the 14 flood affected districts of Assam in coordination with state and district administration.

Speaking to The Meghalayan from New Delhi, a senior NDRF official said that in the on-going flood operations, more than 900 persons have been shifted to safer places on June 23 by NDRF.

“One person, who was struggling for life, was rescued by NDRF rescuers from the mid-stream of flood water in Kamrup district. Since NDRF teams started rescue and relief operations from June 16 in Assam, so far lives of nine people have been rescued and around 17,500 persons have been evacuated from the far-flung, maroon areas along with 32 livestock,” the official said.

Rescuers are also assisting state administration in distribution of relief material. Rescue and relief operations are still continuing, the official added.

At present, 128 teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are pre-positioned across the country in view of impending flood.

“DG NDRF is closely monitoring the situation and is in close touch with concerned authorities and stakeholders,” the official said.

Meanwhile, Congress MP in the Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi, on June 23, has vehemently slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Assam government accusing it of being busy toppling the Maharashtra government rather than focusing on flood relief and rescue operations.

Referring to the 40 rebel Shiv Sena legislators of Maharashtra’s Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government who are currently staying at a luxury hotel in Guwahati, Gogoi said, “Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma should have utilised the entire government machinery for the relief and rescue operation of the flood affected people…but instead, they are working on Prime Minister Narendra Modi government’s agenda of destabilising the Maharashtra government.”
