4th Meghalaya MUN conference: Empowering youth in diplomacy

Gracing the occasion as the chief guest was Metbah Lyngdoh, the former speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, a prominent figure known for his contribution to the state's socio-economic development.

The much-anticipated Meghalaya Model United Nations (MUN) International Conference convened for its 4th edition on Friday, creating a platform for young minds to engage in insightful debates and discussions. Hosted at the prestigious North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), the conference witnessed the participation of over 750 delegates from across India.

Gracing the occasion as the chief guest was Metbah Lyngdoh, the former speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, a prominent figure known for his contribution to the state’s socio-economic development.

Distinguished personalities joined the conference as part-time plenary guests, enriching the discourse with their expertise. Among them were Jemino Mawthoh, a professor of Adult and continuing education department and DK Nayak, esteemed professors from NEHU, renowned for academic contributions. Adding an interdisciplinary perspective to the discussions was Alethea Kordor Lyngdoh, representing the North East Slow Food and Agrobiodiversity Society (NESFAS), Meshuwa Kupar Mawthoh the President, Ritwick Bhuyan, Executive Director and Cathreenia Nongkynrih, Secretary General, Meghalaya MUN.

What set this edition of the Meghalaya MUN apart was the active participation of delegates from various corners of the country. The conference provided a unique platform for them to engage in diplomatic simulations, debating pertinent global issues. Notably, all districts of Meghalaya contributed to the event’s success, with sponsorship from their respective Deputy Commissioners (DCs). This involvement not only showcased unity among the districts but also highlighted their commitment to fostering educational and cultural exchange.

The Meghalaya MUN International Conference has established itself as a premier event, fostering critical thinking, public speaking, and diplomacy skills among the youth.
