5 killed, 3 injured in hit-and-run case in Nagaland’s Kukidolong

DIMAPUR:

Five persons were killed and three others injured in a hit-and-run, at Kukidolong near Jharnapani on National Highway 29, on July 2.

The incident occurred at around 10 am when a truck (MN01AA 0272) coming from the opposite side hit a Kohima-bound local taxi (NL07T 0757) killing three persons on the spot and injuring five others. Truck was coming from Imphal.

While, the two of the injured succumbed to their injuries after they were rushed to Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR) in Dimapur, the injured, including the driver of the vehicle, are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Deputy commissioner of police (Crime) and Dimapur police PRO, in a statement issued on Saturday, said that though the truck driver fled after the incident, a police escort team of Nagaland deputy chief minister Y Patton intercepted the fleeing truck at New Chumoukedima area after a hot chase.

The driver has been arrested and the truck has been seized, the statement said. A case has been registered in this connection as well.

Expressing grief over the incident, Deputy CM Patton, wrote in a popular micro-blogging website, “Deeply saddened by the unfortunate incident that took place near ICAR, Medziphema, in which several people lost their lives. Kudos to the officers, who also are my escort team members, for their brisk action and apprehending the fleeing culprit (sic).”
