The district administration of West Jaintia Hills celebrated the 51st Statehood Day of Meghalaya at the DC’s office conference Room, Jowai, on January 21.
Deputy Commissioner, B.S Sohliya, Superintendent of Police, B. S Bikram, officials from various departments, Church leaders, and NGOs joined the celebrations.
Greeting everyone on the occasion, Sohliya sought cooperation from all the officers for peaceful and smooth conduct of elections on February 27.
He also requested all officials to word hard with the district administration and ensure that elections are free and fair.
Additional Deputy Magistrate, HML Kynta in her introductory speech said that the day is commemorated to acknowledge the efforts made by the hill state fighters in attaining Statehood.
She also described it as a day to acknowledge the contributions made by the statesmen, scholars, farmers, academicians, artists, government servants and each and every citizen of the state who have over the years contributed towards making the state one of the most beautiful peace loving state in the country.
“Today is also a day to remind each one of us how hard our forefathers fought and it’s our responsibility as citizens of the state to contribute further in making our state one of the best states in the country through our dedication and handwork in any sphere of life that we engage with,” Kynta said.
