90 per cent rickshaw pullers insured in Tripura: Transport minister

In the last four years, 12,998 auto vehicles were granted permits across the state which comes to 3250 per year, he said.

Transport Minister of Tripura, Pranajit Sinha Roy, on March 5, claimed that the government has extended life insurance to 90 per cent of rickshaw pullers in the state.

While inaugurating a road safety and awareness program organised at Rajarbagh Motor Stand in Udaipur sub-division of Tripura’s Gomati district, Roy said that his government is committed to providing all the benefits to both autorickshaw drivers and rickshaw pullers.

“The government has also taken various initiatives for the financial prosperity of the autorickshaw drivers and rickshaw pullers. Now, they are issued vehicle permits in a very short span of time and 90 per cent of rickshaw pullers have been covered under insurance,” the minister said.

He said that, in the last four years, 12,998 auto vehicles were granted permits across the state which comes to 3250 per year. “During the previous government this number was 1,096 per year,” he said.

Roy further said that. In the last four years, 1,874 auto-rickshaw permits were issued in the Gomati district alone.

Informing that the government has adopted a multi-pronged plan for the economic growth of the people of the entire state, Roy said, “The chief minister’s self-reliant family schemes, formation of self-help groups and construction of houses under the Prime Minister’s Housing Scheme, among others, are notable in this regard. Besides, the state government has taken special initiative to double the income of farmers.”
