Adani carries out initiative to increase green cover at LGBI airport

The airport makeover also saw statues of specific animals being erected to entertain transit passengers.

GUWAHATI:

Adani Guwahati International Airport Limited (AGIAL) has taken a series of initiatives for development of a green cover at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport on the occasion of Nature Conservation Day 2022.

“The airport currently has a total green cover of 5 acres which is being developed speedily. There are 35 varieties of plants, 10 varieties of flowers and some fruiting plants such as mango and guava in the airport,” a spokesperson of AGIAL said.

“Many fern varieties and Chinese varieties for indoor plants are also available. The airport is going to install a 1,050 sq ft vertical green wall at the outside of the arrival area. We are also developing a poly house for growing vegetables, indoor plants and for other ornamental plant saplings. We are developing an irrigation system for outdoor landscapes for saving water,” she revealed.

Along with a variety of plants, the spokesperson revealed that a dripline system has been developed for hedge plants and sprinkler systems are being used for lawn areas. Many plants that are off-season, like snake plants and neem trees, which release oxygen and which reduce pollution, have been planted.

“The airport has planted 600 air purifying plants for the benefit of the passengers as well as for the stakeholders working day and night. Recently the airport has been developing a flora and fauna garden on the airport’s existing road which is very much visible to each passenger while existing,” she said.

The airport makeover also saw statues of specific animals being erected to entertain transit passengers, and from now onwards, passengers who have a connecting flight can easily spend their leisure time in the flora and fauna garden.

“In 2019, it was only two acres and recently we have developed three additional acres of garden and are also planning for a four acre landscape developing garden, for which the work is in progress,” she added.
