AHAM raises concern over banks’ refusal to accept PMFME scheme documents

According to AHAM, many villagers from various districts in Meghalaya who had applied for the scheme have faced significant disappointment as they encountered hurdles in the application process.

TURA:

The A•chik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM) on October 27, has expressed its deep concern over the recent refusal by banks to accept necessary bank documents for the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme, a government initiative aimed at promoting the growth and development of micro food processing businesses in Meghalaya.

According to AHAM, many villagers from various districts in Meghalaya who had applied for the scheme have faced significant disappointment as they encountered hurdles in the application process.

The Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises Scheme, launched by the government, is designed to bolster rural economies and create employment opportunities by supporting small food processing enterprises. However, reports have surfaced of banks refusing to accept the required bank documents, causing applicants to be unable to access the benefits and support provided by the scheme.

AHAM’s General Secretary, Clinton R Marak, stated, “In the current situation, unemployed youths are eagerly waiting for government subsidies and schemes to kickstart their businesses. It is imperative that banks and other public/civil officers are well-informed about these growth and development schemes. Being unaware of such initiatives not only wastes time but also hinders the nation’s growth and development. Unemployment is often associated with economic downfall, but the real issue might lie elsewhere.”

Marak went on to urge every District Horticulture Head of Department to promptly investigate this matter and take appropriate action against the refusal to accept bank documents for the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises Scheme. He stressed the importance of ensuring transparency, whether the refusals are due to genuine concerns or fears of fraud. Furthermore, he emphasised the need for concerned staff members to receive the necessary guidance and training to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
