Ahead of by by-polls, CPIM moves CEO alleging large scale violence by BJP

The representatives of all the political parties, barring the BJP, expressed grave concern about general law and order situation in the state which, at present, is in the “grip of some bike-ridden miscreants patronised by the BJP”, said CPIM state committee Secretary.

AGARTALA:

The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPIM) has alleged that as soon as the dates for the by polls were announced in Tripura, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-backed miscreants carried out large-scale violence in different parts of the state, and in the process, attacked CPIM party’s workers, and leaders.

Apprising the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Tripura, CPIM state committee Secretary Jitendra Chowdhury, on June ,2 said, “As the head of the election administration, you cannot keep your eyes closed on the appalling law and order situation making excuse that the places of occurrence of incidents don’t fall inside the election-bound area. I request you to take proactive measures to stop anti-democratic activities by unruly elements.”

He also informed that during an all-party meeting on May 27, the representatives of all the political parties, barring the BJP, expressed grave concern about general law and order situation in the state which, at present, is in the “grip of some bike-ridden miscreants patronised by the BJP”.

Chowdhury further informed that, while the house of one Dilip Baidya was vandalised for holding CPI (M) workers’ meeting in Kamalpur sub-division, two shops of CPI(M) workers were ransacked in Manikbhander.

“On June 1, BJP workers on bikes surrounded the house of CPI-M candidate Anjan Das and threatened him to withdraw nomination. Though the police were informed about the incident, no action was taken against the miscreants,” Chowdhury said.

He also alleged that CPI-M MLA Ratan Kumar Bhowmik also came under attack.

Giving instances of violence from the past, he said that 100 bike-borne BJP workers attacked houses of CPI-M workers in various areas under Mohanpur constituency, which is represented by Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath.

“The armed miscreants without any provocation and deterrence from the police attacked houses and shops of CPI-M leaders, cadres and common supporters, physically manhandling them,” he said, adding that despite complaints, police took no action against them.
