A ground-breaking demonstration of cutting-edge waste management techniques was held at Kyndong Rella in the Mawdun Area of Umiam Lake, a popular tourist destination in Meghalaya on August 25.
The Smart Village Movement initiative of the Government of Meghalaya, in partnership with technology partner Clearbot, was the driving force behind the event, which saw the deployment of an AI-Integrated marine robotic boat for floating waste collection, showcasing an inventive use case to address environmental challenges.
The culmination of a seven-day demonstration took place on August 25, at 3 p.m. Various Umiam lake stakeholders were invited to witness the technology unveiled and see how it might revolutionize waste collection in other parts of the state and the region.
The technology offers an affordable way to remove trash, oil, and other substances effectively while using electricity. According to Pynshai Marpna, the project lead for this demonstration, these models need to be investigated in our state because they have the capacity to collect up to 15 litres of oil and 200 kg of floating trash each day.
It is estimated to accumulate a total of 250 kg after the demonstration in less than three hours of swimming. This fusion of marine engineering and artificial intelligence was a prime example of how innovation and sustainability can coexist. Waste collection is made simpler and the problem of increasing aquatic pollution is efficiently addressed by the use of an innovative solution, such as robotic boats.
