AICC leaders to visit Meghalaya this week; candidates’ list to be finalised soon

The state party had already sent the list of candidates to the party high command for approval. "The names will be finalised and tickets will be issued once we get an approval from the party high command," State Congress working president Deborah Marak said.

SHILLONG:

State Congress working president Deborah Marak, on January 10, informed that leaders of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) will visit Meghalaya on January 14 or 15 to decide on the final list of candidates for the upcoming assembly polls in the state.

The state party had already sent the list of candidates to the party high command for approval. “The names will be finalised and tickets will be issued once we get an approval from the party high command,” Marak said.

When asked about the strategies the party is adopting for the upcoming polls, the senior party leader said, Congress is a grand old party; in this election, the party is adopting new strategies and is working differently and secretly.

“Yes, Congress is in a fighting mode and we will progress and fight. We are fighting in all the 24 seats in Garo Hills but I will not tell you the number of seats we will win but we will do well,” Marak said, confidently.

Stating that the party is fielding fresh faces this time around, Marak said the party has new faces but qualified ones, who will take on corruption that has been ‘plaguing’ the state in these past five years.
