AITC legislator accuses MDA govt of taking credit for Mukul-era schemes

SHILLONG:

Opposition All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) legislator from Rangsakona, Zenith Sangma, on August 26, accused the NPP-led MDA government for renaming schemes from Dr Mukul Sangma’s tenure and claiming them as their own.

Addressing the launch of the party’s membership drive at Ampati, Zenith said, “MDA government ceased welfare schemes and services that were initiated by Mukul Sangma. Now, they are showing the same welfare schemes and services with different names. CM Conrad Sangma claims that he has developed the state through PMGSY and also brought other funds; but has he forgotten that the PMGSY is a scheme of the Government of India?”

Further elaborating on the ineptitude of the MDA government, Meghalaya TMC MLA Zenith Sangma said, “In the last election, we won 21 seats and NPP won 19 seats. Despite winning more seats, the NPP formed the government because other parties joined hands with them. Now, after forming the government, they have completely forgotten about development. The reality is that they are corrupt and do not have any intention to work for the welfare of the state and the people.”

Castigating the MDA government over its abysmal maternal healthcare,  Meghalaya TMC MLA Dikkanchi D Shira said, “Many pregnant women lost their children in their wombs. I wanted to build a hospital for them, but the MDA government came in between.”

Pointing to the declining quality of education in the state, she said, “While contesting, Conrad Sangma said that education would be his priority; however, the reality is that we have ranked at the third last.”

Expressing her concern for the deplorable road condition, she said, “Many people lost their lives due to the bad condition of Dalu Road. All of these needs immediate redressal. Dr. Mukul Sangma knows how to work for rural people since he was brought up in a rural area. If he is elected as a Chief Minister, the state will flourish in every aspect.”

Meanwhile, the AITC said that while the proxy-BJP government continues to strategise how to retain power rather than addressing the substandard educational infrastructure and infrastructural collapse in the state, the party will continue to be the voice of the people of Meghalaya. With a united cadre, the party pledges to work earnestly to fulfill its promises keeping the interests of the people as its topmost priority, it said.
