GUWAHATI:
Concerned over the spiralling prices of essential commodities, including fuel and medicine, the more than 300 members of All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) on May 11 staged a two-hour sit-in demonstration at Sashal in Guwahati, and submitted a memorandum to governor Jagdish Mukhi seeking his intervention on the matter.
The AIDUF also demanded the resignation of state food and civil supplies minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass for his failure to control the price hike in the state.
“The prices of all commodities including fuel and medicines are skyrocketing in the country. But no step has so far been taken by the BJP-led government in the Centre and in the state,” said Hafiz Basir Choudhury, leader of the AIUDF legislature party, addressing the protestors.
“Instead of controlling the situation, our chief minister has blamed other chief ministers for the price hike. It is unfortunate. The price hike has affected all sections of the people of the state,” Choudhury added.
Stating that the BJP has failed to fulfil its electoral promises, he said that the declining value of Rupee should be an eye opener for the party which is not good for the economy.
Choudhury demanded the state government to take immediate and effective steps to control the price hike and said the creation of beneficiaries should not be the only duty of the government, but it has to work for all sections of the people.
MLAs Aminul Islam, Haji Aminul Islam, Karimuddin Borbhuyan, Nizamuddin Choudhury, Suzamuddin Laskar, Jakir Hussain Laskar, Mujibur Rahman, Nizanur Rahman, Samsukl Huda, Hafiz Rafiqul Islam, Ashraful Hussain and Aandul Aziz and AIUDF vice president Auyal Mazid, general secretary Siddique Ali Thakuria, Women wing president Bina Daimary, Youth Wing president Jeherul Islam and student wing president Nasim Ahmed were also also part of the protest demonstration.
