AKHAF distributes food items to flood-hit people of Moheskola

More than 1,000 people in 15 villages have been badly affected by flash floods and landslides on June 16 and 17 last.

MOHESHKOLA:

Members of All Khasi Hills A’chik Federation (AKHAF) on July 10 distributed rice among the flood and landslide-affected people of Moheskola area under Ranikor Development Block in South West Khasi Hills.

More than 1,000 people in 15 villages have been badly affected by flash floods and landslides on June 16 and 17 last.

The landslides also disrupted road communication, and power and water supply line in the villages causing immense hardship to the people.

“We visited the affected areas and tried to help the people in various ways. We also helped with road repairing work in Borsora and some other areas. We are thankful to the people who extended their help to our visit to the villages,” AKHAF president Clivestar Ch Marak said in a statement here.

“We urge the PHED (Public Health Engineering Department) under Ranikor sub-division of South West Khasi Hills to make a spot study on the damages of water supply lines in the villages and to restore them immediately. The people of the affected villages have been facing an acute shortage of drinking water,” Marak said.

“All the pipelines of the water supply system have been extensively damaged due to landslides and floods. The PHED should make a spot study and make arrangements for restoration of water supply line in the affected areas,” Marak also said.

Four minors were killed and two injured in a landslide that occurred at Laitlarem village under Mawphlang C&RD block in East Khasi Hills district on June 16.
