SHILLONG, APR 3: Meghalaya has over 140 polling stations bordering the international border with Bangladesh and 187 polling stations along the inter-state border with Assam.
“Of this, there are 164 polling stations where polling parties will have to move through Assam,” Chief electoral officer (CEO) Dr BDR Tiwari told reporters on Wednesday.
He said all issues related to the inter-state border have already been taken up during a meeting held at the level of the chief secretaries of both Assam and Meghalaya.
“All the necessary arrangements are being taken to ensure free, fair and smooth elections,” Dr Tiwari added.
He informed that the issues related to the interstate border again was taken up during a meeting chaired by the Election Commission of India with all chief secretaries, DGPs today.
“However, as far as Meghalaya is concerned, there are no specific issues since we have already taken up the issue at the interstate meeting held at the level of the chief secretaries of both the states. All the agencies and officials and all logistics and issues have been discussed,” Dr Tiwari said.
Stating that Meghalaya is fully ready to go for free, fair and very peaceful elections, the CEO said there are no big issues in the state as all issues are being taken care of as per ECI instructions.
