Ammunition, contrabands seized in Meghalaya’s Jowai; 3 Held

SHILLONG:

In a major crackdown against the drug menace, the Meghalaya Police apprehended three armed traffickers and seized contraband weighing 108 gm from their possession in Jowai, on July 5.

Based on specific inputs, a team of Anti-Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) conducted a major operation and recovered one 7.65 mm pistol with magazine, four live ammo, Rs 4 lakh, nine soap cases and one small bottle containing suspected heroin amounting weighing 108 gm.

The West Jaintia Hills Police took to a micro-blogging website and informed, “Continuing its fight against DRUGS menace in Jowai, an operation was conducted by ANTF & waylaid the suspected persons & vehicles tracing to Lalong park @ 3.00 pm today who had come for peddling. The following were seized from their possessions and 3 persons were arrested (sic).”

Meanwhile, three mobile phones, one dagger, one four-wheel-drive vehicle and a local taxi were also seized from their possession.

Congratulating the Jowai police, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma too took the micro-blogging website and wrote, “@Jowai_Police dealt a resounding blow to drug trafficking by arresting 3 notorious traffickers & seized 108 gms heroin ₹4 Lakhs 1 pistol (7.65mm) with 4 live rounds 2 Vehicles 3 mobiles Kudos to @MeghalayaPolice (sic).”
