Ampareen, Jasmine file nominations for upcoming polls

Accompanied by their supporters, both Ampareen and Jasmine, took out a rally all the way from their respective residences till the office of the Deputy Commissioner on January 31.

SHILLONG:

NPP candidates Ampareen Lyngdoh and her sister, Jasmine Lyngdoh, from East Shillong and Nongthymmai, respectively, filed their nominations on January 31 for the upcoming assembly polls in the state slated to be held on Feb 27.

Accompanied by their supporters, both Ampareen and Jasmine, took out a rally all the way from their respective residences till the office of the Deputy Commissioner on January 31.

The two sisters were the first to file their nominations for the upcoming polls.

Speaking to the section of media on the day of filing the nomination papers, Ampareen said that she always wanted herself to associate with a party which is from the state, has a national presence, and does not play communal politics.

“The ideology of the NPP is close to the ideology of the Congress. It is not a communal party, it believes in inclusivity. It is a party which believes in grassroots politics,” said Amapreen.

Asked if the pending case against her will have any impact on her candidature, the ex-East Shillong legislator said that she has complete faith on the judiciary system of the country and that it will not have any impact on her poll prospects.

Jasmine on the other hand said that she is contesting against two big names in Nongthymmai, which is a big task but the mandate of the people will help her get through.

“I think voters should be reflective when they are voting as they are voting for five years, and there is so much to do in Nongthymmai which I came to know during the course of my interaction with the people of the constituency.”

Today marks the first day for candidates to file their nominations for the upcoming assembly polls. The last date for filing of nomination is on February 7, scrutiny of papers on Feb 8, the last date for withdrawal of nomination on Feb 10, the voting date on Feb 27 and counting on March 2.
