Applicants for medical seats under scrutiny: Ampareen

The minister informed that the government is likely to announce the allotment of seats very soon.

SHILLONG:

Health minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, on August 29, said the government is on the job to scrutinise certain applicants, who have applied for medical seats in the unreserved category.

“We are on the job. We are made to understand that there were certain candidates, who likely also applied in Assam where they have produced bonafide citizenship of that state; we also have a PRC which is provisional in nature. We discussed with the law department and the chief secretary this morning and we are looking into this matter,” Lyngdoh told reporters.

The minister informed that the government is likely to announce the allotment of seats very soon.

“But we expect that in other categories of applications where there are no complications or no allegations of any form, we are likely to announce the allotment of seats very quickly but in areas where there are some requirements for scrutiny we will take some time but we are on the job,” she said.

Recently, the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) had alleged that 11 out of 14 medical seats from the state quota have been allotted to students from outside Meghalaya in the open category even as it demanded that the government make public their full details including Aadhaar card and EPIC.

The minister said, “We are only examining all of the submissions of all the candidates and those will take the natural procedures where we are asking DCs to submit all documents for issuance of any certificate to any citizens in the state of India with regard to the medical seats application.”

When asked, Lyngdoh said, “It is not a question of me divulging everything. I have said that we have set up a scrutiny committee to be supervised by the law department, and until such time the scrutiny is completed it would be incorrect for me to comment.”

“Now seats have to be quickly allotted to students who have been selected through fair procedures and we will make sure all this is done at the earliest so that they meet the last date of submission of application and processing of applications even for sponsored candidates of various state governments,” she added.
