Ardent holds meet to thank supporters

Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit said that when he was elected for the first time in 2008 from Nongkrem he started the Clean Politics Movement.

SHILLONG:

Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit, who was recently elected to the state assembly from Nongkrem constituency, on March 13 held a meeting at Kynton-U-Mon to thank his supporters.

Speaking to his supporters he said that only truth can uplift the state.

Basaiawmoit said that when he was elected for the first time in 2008 from Nongkrem he started the Clean Politics Movement.

But according to him, after his loss in 2018 he did not understand why he was defeated since he did not feel he did anything wrong.

He stated that he knew there is a silver lining and the Voice of the People Party (VPP) is like a shining sun for the people of the state.

“So that is why we should not do anything which will cloud the sun for the VPP,” he said.

Basaiawmoit added that after the VPP was formed the party got very less time to prepare for the election since there were many hurdles when it was formed.

“We found it difficult to register for the party; it took us almost one year. It seems there were forces who tried to stop us,” he added.

The VPP chief also informed that the party had to go to court against the government’s decision not to allow college teachers to take part in politics.

Basaiawmoit said that the VPP had to fight to get the ‘winnowing tray’ as the party’s election symbol.

He added that the party fought the assembly election for the first time and it has now become a state party.

The VPP president also said that the party won over money power.

He further added that now the VPP is a new alternative regional party of the state.
