ASDMA conducts search and rescue operations programme for NGOs

The training programme was organised to impart the knowledge on effective response mechanisms required for managing any disaster and strengthen the capacities of the NGOs working at grass root level on disaster preparedness and response.

GUWAHATI:

Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) in collaboration with Civil Defence, Assam organised a five days training programme from January 2 to 6 on search and rescue operations for disaster management for the NGO personnel in Assam.

The training programme was organised to impart the knowledge on effective response mechanisms required for managing any disaster and strengthen the capacities of the NGOs working at grass root level on disaster preparedness and response.

A total of 123 representatives from 41 NGOs (registered under the Go-NGO portal of ASDMA) across 18 districts of Assam have participated in the training programme.

NGOs work as a frontline institutions with proximity to the community for multiple issues concerning disaster management as well as community resilience development. Capacitating them with adequate resources and enhancing their knowledge of mitigation measures will not only pave the way for better service delivery in disaster management but will also help in disaster risk reduction.

The training module included theoretical knowledge on basic disaster management and response mechanism which was conducted on the first day of the training at the Assam Administrative Staff College (AASC), Khanapara along with a practical demonstration on search and rescue which was conducted at the Central Training Institution (CTI), Panikhaiti.

Participating districts are Hojai, Darrang, Nalbari, Kamrup (Rural), Biswanath, Sonitpur, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Cachar, Morigaon, West Karbi Anglong, Kamrup (Metro), Barpeta, Jorhat and Karbi Anglong. The training session of the first batch culminated on January 6 and the second batch training will happen from January 9 to 13.
