Assam-Arunachal border row: Regional committees to submit reports by Sep 15

Namsai:

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his Arunachal Pradesh counterpart, Pema Khandu, met for the third round of talks to resolve the vexed border row between the two states, at Namsai, on July 15.

Speaking to the press after the meeting, Sarma said that the regional committees will study ground realities and submit their reports on or before September 15.

”Resolution on 123 disputed sites have been identified and the committees will soon embark on field visits,” said Sarma.

Khandu said that both states are committed to resolving the matter.

“The vexed issue of the Arunachal-Assam border has been lingering for more than seven decades but now we are keen to resolve the dispute. We should be able to do it by this year, ” said Khandu, adding, ” 28 Villages are already in Arunachal Pradesh’s constitutional jurisdiction.”

In the last meeting, it was decided that the state governments will form district-level committees led by cabinet ministers to resolve the decades-old boundary issue
