GUWAHATI:
A citizen of Guwahati has urged Assam Legislative Assembly speaker Biswajit Daimary to conduct an in-house probe against Congress MLA and former minister Rakibul Hussain for his alleged nexus with Pakistani supporters.
In a letter to the speaker, Dharmendra Choudhury, a resident of Raj Apartment, GMCH Road, Guwahati, said the speaker should initiate an in-house enquiry regarding the allegations so that citizens can dispel their doubts.
Quoting the statements of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and freedom fighter Uma Phookan, Choudhury alleged that Hussain is a supporter of ideologies of the Muslim League and belongs to the league of pro-Pakistani supporters.
“During Question Hour of the winter session of the Assam Legislative Assembly on December 22, 2022, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that Rakibul Hussain was interested in planning to go to Pakistan. The chief minister said it replying to a question in the house after he was questioned of his credibility and also referred to him as a traitor,” Choudhury said in his letter.
“Late Uma Phookan, son of martyr Bhoogeswari Phukaanani stated that Rakibul Hussain and his deceased father both were supporters of the ideologies of the Muslim Leagues and belong to the league of pro-Pakistani supporters,” Choudhury said.
“This is not an isolated incident as similar questions were also raised on the credibility and bonafides of Rakibul Hussain by others in the past,” he said.
“Therefore it is important to look into the matter as statements made by two respectable persons of the society, that is, one being a freedom fighter of Assam and another being the chief minister raises questions on the credibility and bonafides of Rakibul Hussain and further created doubt whether he has any connection to the pro-Pakistani elements operating in the state of Assam clandestinely,” he also said.
“The allegation is as serious as the instant one against sitting MLA castes serious doubts regarding the credibility of the person and the same also gives rise to a strong presumption in support of the allegation that. Rakibul Hussain is a supporter of our enemy nation Pakistan,” he further said.
“This matter was also published in social media as well as in news portals. To initiate an in-house enquiry regarding the allegations so that citizens can dispel their doubts,” he added.
