Assam Congress leader slams state government for not taking measures against pollution

Guwahati, Mar 20: Assam Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi slammed the state government for not taking any corrective measures to combat growing pollution in the city.

In a social media post Gogoi said that Guwahati is the second highest polluted city according to the data of World Air Quality Report 2023. The dangerous rise in pollution is posing a threat to the health of citizens. Children and elderly are becoming particularly vulnerable due to this effect,”.

He said as the convenor of the Parliamentarians’ Group on Clean Air he has written to the Assam Chief Minister multiple times to take corrective action against the pollution in Guwahati, but no steps have been taken by the government.

“As a convener of the member of parliament, I have taken an amendment by writing a letter to the Chief Minister of Assam multiple times. Not a bit worried about the dangerous increase in pollution by the double engine government – millions of citizens are slowly suffering from pain today,” Gogoi stated.

The city earned the dubious distinction after recording an average annual PM2.5 concentration of 105.4, exceeding the World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines by over 10 times.
