SHILLONG:
With Assam and Meghalaya going into the second phase of border talks, Cabinet Minister Paul Lyngdoh, on August 25, informed that the government has proper documentation to establish claim on 54 villages in the Langpih Sector.
Lyngdoh, who is also the West Khasi Hills Regional Committee in-charge said, “As I mentioned last time, we will be presenting a list of these villages, and a status note on each of them inorder to strengthen our claim.”
Asked if the government will follow a give and take policy with Assam, Lyngdoh informed that the parameters followed during the first phase of border talks will be taken into consideration this time also.
“Parameters including ethnicity, contiguity, willingness of the people, historical factors, electoral rolls, developmental activities implemented in the villages and which government has undertaken it will be taken into consideration,” Lyngdoh informed.
Lyngdoh, while replying to a query on how will the government take up the case of villages falling under Meghalaya dominated by non-Khasis, informed that those villages are small in numbers and will be taken up on the basis of contiguity.
