Assam-Meghalaya border tension at Khanduli in West Jaintia Hills

The incident happened on April 17 when the district administration of both of the districts held a meeting at the site where a signboard mentioning about a proposed Tax Gate was erected.

JOWAI:

Tension erupted at Khanduli village in West Jaintia Hills after the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) allegedly erected a signboard within the area of Khanduli village recently.

The incident happened on April 17 when the district administration of both of the districts held a meeting at the site where a signboard mentioning about a proposed Tax Gate was erected.

In the middle of the meeting, residents suddenly reached the spot, following which a heated argument between them and the district administration of West Karbi Anglong, including leaders of the Karbi leaders ensued.

The people of Khanduli village also uprooted and destroyed the signboard erected by the Karbi-Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) even as they alleged that it was illegally put up without the consent of both the District Administrations.

Earlier, West Jaintia Hills District Administration raised an objection on the erection of the signboard, asking the other side to maintain status quo.
