SHILLONG:
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on August 19 informed that Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and his Assam counterpart Himanta Biswa Sarma are likely to meet in Guwahati on August 21 to initiate dialogue on the remaining six areas of difference.
“Both the chief ministers will sit most likely on Sunday and after that they will go to their respective states and notify the Regional Committees,” Tynsong told reporters on the sidelines of a function.
He said that the government is committed to start the second phase of the border dialogue.
It may be mentioned that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the six areas of difference in the first phase was signed in March.
On allegations that he and the chief minister got money to give away the state’s land to Assam, Tynsong said that people making such allegations should come up with proof.
Stating that the National People’s Party is committed to see the resolution of the interstate border issue with Assam, the Tynsong said the party will not go back on the MoU even if they are alone.
It may be mentioned that recently, the Meghalaya chief minister had said that the second phase of the Meghalaya-Assam border talks will begin after August 15.
On questions being raised by certain quarters on the proposed peace talks with the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council since very few cadres are left with the outfit, Tynsong said that the government is committed to hold talks even if there is only a single cadre.
