Assam-Meghalaya Regional Committees hold meeting in Shillong

While the Assam side was led by Forest Minister and Chairman of Kamrup Sector regional committee  CM Patowary, Cabinet Minister and chairman of West Khasi Hills Regional Committee Paul Lyngdoh led the Meghalaya side.

SHILLONG:

As part of the second round of border talks, the Meghalaya and Assam Regional Committees held a meeting at Pinewood Hotel in Shillong on August 28 to deliberate over onsite inspection post Assembly sessions in September.

While the Assam side was led by Forest Minister and Chairman of Kamrup Sector regional committee  CM Patowary, Cabinet Minister and chairman of West Khasi Hills Regional Committee Paul Lyngdoh led the Meghalaya side.

Speaking to media persons, Lyngdoh informed that the meeting was productive as both parties narrowed down on the areas of conflict or areas where both states have claims and counter claims.

“To go to the specifics, the two DCs as well as local MDC have been entrusted with the task of preparing a list which will then be taken up for discussions,“ Lyngdoh said.

He said that after the Assembly Sessions of both the states in September, the Regional Committees will visit the areas of differences.

“We will try to cater to 4 or 5 villages and choose a central point as the meeting point and will then go for a site visit at the end of September,” he said.
