Over 1270 people contributed towards the crowd-funded film, including Bollywood action star Vidyut Jammwal.

Cinephiles interested in Assamese comedy are in for a treat tomorrow as Local Utpaat, a film from the makers of Local Kung Fu and the popular YouTube channel Heavy Budget, will hit the theatres across the state tomorrow.

“I’m very lucky to be surrounded by very talented and helpful friends and family,” said director Kenny Deori Basumatary, expressing gratitude to all the 1270+ people who contributed towards the crowd-funded film. “Even Bollywood action star Vidyut Jammwal had contributed a significant amount,” informed Kenny, on the sidelines of the film’s premiere in Guwahati, on May 12.

Keeping up with the film’s tagline – “Sobigriholoi ahibo; petor bixor tablet anibo; May 13 tareekhe; local utpaat hobo” (Come to the theatres, bring stomach ache tablets, on May 13 as we unleash Local Utpaat), the team completely delivered on its promise as the audience enjoyed the movie thoroughly with some of the loudest laughs coming from scenes such one involving a cellphone, a horror-comedy moment, and of course, the climax, which was a laugh riot of comedy and action.

People were all praise for the comedy and the quick pacing of the film. “This is one of the best, if not the best from the team. I expected a laugh riot and this film fulfils my expectations 200 per cent. Really an all-out comedy from an amazingly creative team. A must-watch in theatres,” said one of the viewers at the show.

So, will the team release the film on Over The Top (OTT) platforms for a global audience? “We haven’t yet made a final decision on that. We’re hoping to get a good offer,” answered Kenny.

He added that if Local Utpaat recovers its investment, then they will make Local Kung Fu 3 next. “But for that, people need to watch movies in cinema halls. Because currently, that’s the only way for Assamese films to recover their investment,” said Kenny.
