Assembly Budget session from March 4

SHILLONG:

The Budget session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly will commence from March 4 and continue till March 17.

This was informed by the Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh after chairing a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) on Tuesday.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma, Congress MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh and others.

Speaking to reporters, the Speaker informed there will be 10 working days. Of this, 7 days have been allotted for government business and three days  for private members’ business.

The Governor of Meghalaya, Satya Pal Malik, will address the House on the first day of the session while the Budget estimates of 2022-23 will be presented on March 9 and it will be passed on March 14.

Lyngdoh also informed that he is looking to host the Autumn Session in the new building at Mawdiangdiang.

Lyngdoh informed that the construction of the new assembly building was hampered by the pandemic.

The Speaker said that they had earlier planned to hold this year’s Budget session in March at the new building.

He informed that Covid-19 has slowed down the progress of the work and the target date has been revised for completion to June-end or mid-July.
