At least 14 farm sheds destroyed by wild elephants in South West Khasi Hills

It was informed that no injuries were reported since the incident happened at night when farmers have all gone back to their houses.

SHILLONG:

A herd of wild elephants destroyed at least 14 sheds belonging to the farmers at Nongijngai village under the Nongnah area in South West Khasi Hills district on July 13. This is reportedly the third time that wild elephants have released their anger on villagers’ properties and agricultural areas.

It was informed that no injuries were reported since the incident happened at night when farmers have all gone back to their houses.

Concerned over the repeated incidents, the farmers urged the Wildlife Department to look into the matter and warned of action if the department fails to take serious note of this constant attack on their properties by the wild tuskers.

The farmers said that they fear going to their farmlands lest they encounter the wild elephants and lose their lives.
