Awareness programme on legal aid held in Ri Bhoi

The students of USLR also performed a skit on the theme, “Child Labour and Child Abuse.”

NONGPOH:

An awareness programme on the legal system and its functionality was conducted in a primary school at Nongspung Village, Ri Bhoi District, on April 29.

Faculties of University School of Law and Research (USLR) of University of Science and Technology (USTM), the headmen of nearby villages and local residents attended the do along with students of the school.

Organised by USLR in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Kamrup (M), the programme touched upon a gamut of subjects related to law.

Advocate Khusboo Verma, a legal aid counsel of DLSA addressed the students on the basic fundamentals of law, highlighting on laws relating to juveniles and also spoke about child labour and child abuse, the simple analogies of it all.

Stating that legal awareness is the need of the hour, Prof Subhram Rajkhowa of USLR, enlightened the participants about the significance of courts and how to avail legal remedies, if needed.

The students of USLR also performed a skit on the theme, “Child Labour and Child Abuse”, and it was followed by a speech by Pranami Sarmah, assistant professor, USLR. Talks on child protection rights, consumer protection rights were also delivered by the students of law school. Subsequently, an interactive session took place between the legal aid counsellor, the students and the local people of the Nongspung village.

The programme was graced by Bettin Marak, village headmen of the Nongspung Village, Brobith K. Sangma, Principal of the primary school and members of both the organising committees.
