Baghmara DC-SP offices cut off after road caves in

Baghmara, March 7: Functioning of all major government offices, including that of the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police, have been impacted for the past three days after the main road connecting the town to the office complex suddenly caved in due to absence of a retaining wall.

The road communication snapped a little ahead of the main Baghmara bridge that leads up to the DC office colony which also houses several other department offi es including the district treasury.

The cause of the collapse has been attributed to a delay by the PWD in erecting a retaining wall below the road to provide support.

A blame game has erupted over responsibility for the lapses with all fingers pointing to the Public Works Department in the state.

Sources in the PWD say that the road has been under the jurisdiction of the building division of the PWD since many years and wasn’t handed over to the roads division. In the process neither division gave emphasis to protecting the road leading to this calamity.

With no vehicular traffic able to commute from the bridge to the DC offices, except for two wheelers, officers and staff within the complex, including the district head (DC) and SP, are now having to walk across and change transport to either head to office or town.
